A focused VR and Mixed Reality forearm anatomy platform for Meta Quest. Students explore forearm muscles, tendons, and bone structures in true 3D — isolate any layer, inspect any muscle, and trigger contextual educational descriptions. Built for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sports medicine, kinesiology, and anatomy programs that need deep regional anatomy detail without the full-body overhead.
Why specialist programs adopt it
| Pain point | What it delivers | |---|---| | Forearm musculoskeletal anatomy is hard to teach in 2D | Spatial, rotatable, interactive 3D muscle structures | | Cadaver access for regional anatomy is limited | Unlimited, repeatable forearm dissection in VR/MR | | Physiotherapy and OT programs lack hands-on anatomy tools | A focused musculoskeletal lab on one Meta Quest | | Generic anatomy apps are too broad for specialist programs | Deep, focused content — forearm done thoroughly | | Sports medicine students need attachment-point clarity | Inspect origins, insertions, and muscle groupings spatially | | Smaller programs can't afford full-body XR platforms | An accessible specialist entry point into medical XR |
What students can do
- Explore the full forearm anatomy — muscles, tendons, and bone structures
- Switch between visualization modes — full forearm, muscle layers, bone-only, isolated muscle view, exploded anatomy, educational focus mode
- Isolate any muscle or anatomy layer for inspection, then restore with one gesture
- Rotate, scale, and inspect structures with natural Meta Quest controllers
- Hide and show anatomy layers to understand depth and overlap
- Explore attachment points — origins, insertions, and how muscle groups interact
- Read dynamic labels and educational descriptions triggered by selection
- Switch between VR and Mixed Reality to teach in a clean lab or overlay anatomy onto the real classroom
How it's built
Unity 6 on Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3, with a modular anatomy framework where each muscle, tendon, and bone is independently selectable, isolatable, and labelled. Educational content lives in a JSON content layer, so labels, descriptions, and lesson data are content work — not engineering work. Runs fully offline on the headset, optimized for standalone VR performance with mobile-XR rendering workflows throughout.
A real-time educational guidance system surfaces context-aware information ("Select a muscle to inspect" · "This muscle controls wrist movement" · "Explore muscle attachment points"), paired with world-space VR UI for menus, anatomy navigation, and learning prompts.
Where MuscleLab XR fits in your program
MuscleLab XR is a focused specialist module — narrower than a full-body anatomy platform, deeper than a generic biology app. That makes it the right fit when:
- Your program centers on musculoskeletal anatomy (physiotherapy, OT, sports medicine, kinesiology)
- You want to pilot XR anatomy before committing to a full-body deployment
- You need a regional anatomy lab that complements existing teaching tools
- You're a smaller institution or startup evaluating immersive medical education
For broader full-body anatomy education, MuscleLab XR pairs naturally with Anatomy XR — the multilingual full-body platform — and Medical Emergency XR Simulation to form a complete medical XR education suite.
Bring it to your institution
I work directly with medical schools, physiotherapy programs, occupational therapy schools, sports medicine institutes, and healthcare ed-tech partners to deploy, customize, and extend the platform:
- Pilot program — Meta Quest deployment, curriculum mapping, instructor onboarding
- Custom anatomy modules — additional regions, specialist content, or program-specific lessons
- White-label licensing — your branding, your content, our anatomy XR engine
- Co-development — joint roadmap for specialty regions and clinical specialties
Roadmap — what's coming next
- Full arm anatomy expansion — shoulder, upper arm, hand, and wrist detail
- AI anatomy tutor — conversational guidance and on-demand Q&A
- Voice narration system for accessibility and structured lessons
- Quiz and assessment modules with progress tracking
- Hand tracking interactions — controller-free anatomy learning
- Classroom multiplayer mode — students and instructor share the same XR space
- Progress tracking for accredited programs
- Tendon and nerve visualization — deeper musculoskeletal detail
- Muscle movement simulation — see contraction, flexion, and extension in action
- Educational certification system — for accredited physiotherapy and OT programs
FAQ — Does it work on both Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3?
Yes. Optimized for both, with adaptive rendering to maintain stable framerate. Quest 3 unlocks the full Mixed Reality passthrough experience for classroom overlay teaching.
FAQ — How is MuscleLab XR different from Anatomy XR?
Anatomy XR is a full-body multilingual platform covering every major body system. MuscleLab XR is a focused, deep-dive on forearm musculoskeletal anatomy — ideal for physiotherapy, OT, sports medicine, and kinesiology programs that need regional depth rather than full-body breadth. They're complementary: many institutions use MuscleLab XR as a pilot or specialist module alongside Anatomy XR.
FAQ — Can we add additional anatomy regions or specialist content?
Yes. The framework is modular by design — new regions, specialist anatomy modules, and program-specific lessons can be commissioned through co-development. Full arm expansion is already on the roadmap.
FAQ — Can MuscleLab XR be white-labelled for our program?
Yes. White-label licensing covers your institution's branding, curriculum, and content running on the MuscleLab XR engine.
FAQ — Does it require an internet connection?
No. MuscleLab XR runs fully offline on Meta Quest — no cloud streaming, no licensing servers. Deployable in classrooms and clinics with limited or restricted connectivity.
FAQ — Who is MuscleLab XR for?
Medical schools, physiotherapy and occupational therapy programs, sports medicine and kinesiology departments, anatomy labs, biology education centers, and healthcare training institutes. Also suited to healthcare startups and XR ed-tech partners building specialist anatomy catalogs.
